FOOTBALL FIRST FOR FERNANDINA

The Lady Pirates’ inaugural flag football season ended Wednesday at Stanton. Fernandina Beach High School (7-4) lost 33-7 to the host Lady Blue Devils in the Florida’s first flag football postseason. The District 3-1A tournament quarterfinal and semifinal games were held at Stanton and Riverside, and Thursday’s matchup between Paxon and Stanton in the championship game was played at Paxon. Paxon eliminated Riverside 20-0 Wednesday in the other semifinal round to advance to the title game. In the quarterfinal round, FBHS edged Andrew Jackson 14-12 in the Lady Pirates’ first-ever playoff game. Yulee lost to Riverside 6-0.
