The Pirates placed fourth out of 32 teams at the Region 1-1A tournament held over the weekend at Wewahitchka High School.

“The guys are wrestling great right now and are ready for the state tournament this weekend,” Eric Kubatzke said. “They are peaking at the right time this season.”

All four qualified for the 1A state tournament at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, which runs through Saturday.

“All four of these wrestlers had outstanding performances at the region tournament,” Eric Kubtazke said. “In the 16 total match-es that these four wrestlers competed in, 13 were won by a pin, one by a technical fall, one by a major decision and one by a decision.

“Prior to any pins being called, they collectively scored a total of 121 points and only allowed 10 points in total  to be scored against them.”
